- ABC of
Medical Computing - A book which is an introduction
to computing in medical practice. The printed version
contains additional chapters and has full colour
illustrations.
- Agency for Healthcare
Policy and Research - Lists research activities of
the agency including areas such as women's health,
managed care, use of computers. Also listed are Clinical
Practice Guidelines and Medical Effectiveness Program.
- Agency
for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry - Provides
access to 4 web crawlers for searching. Also provides
access to ATSDR locations, databases, and resources, the
HAZDAT database, etc.
- AJN
Network - Nursing Organizations - Extensive list of
nursing organizations and agencies with links to contact
information or websites. Links for whether an
organization has a web site or not may be somewhat
outdated.
- AMA
Publishing Home Page
- American
Association for the History of Nursing - A
professional association open to everyone interested in
the history of nursing. The site contains a useful
selection of resources for reasearch in the history of
nursing.
- American
Journal of Nursing Online - Covers 1995-1996 issues
of AJN plus the 1994-1995 indexes. Guidelines to Authors
and searching capabilities are also offered. There is a
Books of the Year Club and a journal available from this
site.
- American Medical
Association (AMA) - Provides access to the Fellowship
and Residency Electronic Interactive Database Access
(FREIDA) system and also to all AMA journals.
- American Society For
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) - Provides complete
information about ASGE and ASGE activities including
official publications, an online reference library,
legislative action, endoscopy related meetings, clinical
guidelines, etc.
- APA Monitor -
Selected stories from the APA Monitor, newspaper of the
American Psychological Association. Published monthly and
includes full text back to March 1995.

- Bureau of the Census
- Bureau of Labor Statistics
- Provides regional information as well as national.
Covers the latest news releases on unemployment, living
conditions, wages, and employment projections.
- California
Air Resources Board - Site lists information for all
divisions of the ARB including the Comliance Division,
Monitoring & Laboratory Division, Research Division,
and Mobile Source Operations. Also provided is access to
a directory of California local Air Pollution Control
Districts, some of which are accessable via the web.
- California
Department of Health Services - Background
information on the California Department of Health
Services and its agencies. The site also lists press
releases, DHS Fact Sheets, and CDC Disease Fact Sheets.
- California Department of
Industrial Relations - This site covers Occupational
Health and Safety boards, commissions, publications, an
ergonomics proposal, labor laws, statistics, research,
etc.
- California
Department of Pesticide Regulation Database Resources
- Provides access to several pesticide related databases
such as chemical ingriedients, pesticide products,
pesticide labeling.
- California
Health Information for Policy Project -- CHIPP - This
agency provides information on future health information
systems in California and has produced the
- California
Health Database Inventory - Contains descriptive
information on over 125 databases currently maintained by
10 health and welfare agencies, programs, or departments.
File available for downloading.
- California Healthcare
Association - Based in Sacramento, is the statewide
leader in representing the interests of hospitals, health
systems, physicians groups and other member healthcare
providers in California. Includes California health care
projections to 2005 and links to other healthcare
organizations.
- Center for the
Advanced Medical Informatics at Stanford - This
center brings together researchers in medical informatics
who are concerned with the use of information technology
to solve problems in clinical medicine and the biomedical
sciences.
- Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention - Covers travelers health information,
the latest disease outbreaks and vaccine recommendations;
complete information about the CDC including funding,
statistics, and publications.
- Changing
Numbers, Changing Needs: American Indian Demography and
Public Health - The entire contents of this book are
included online. It is difficult to read "cumbersome
to move between sections but it is full text".
Primitive search capabilities are available.
- Communicable
Diseases Intelligence - Produced by the Australia and
New Zealand Commonwealth Department of Health and Family
Services and the Communicable Diseases Network. This is
the equivalent of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.
- Consortium
for Clinical Information Systems (CCIS) - A
consortium of the American
Association of Dental Schools (AADS), CCIS is an
organization dedicated to the advancement of information
technology in dentistry.
- Demographic
Research Unit - Provides demographic research and
analysis, produces current population estimates, future
projections of population and school enrollment, and
disseminates census data. There is also a list of
publishers available.
- Department of Energy's
Technical Information Service - Lists publications by
the DOE's Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H)
Technical Information Services, including regulatory
codes and standards. Lists other Web sites, including the
Fire Protection Program and ES&H databases available.
- Department of
Health and Human Services - Includes all Department
of Health and Human Services agencies and institutes.
- Department of Health
and Human Services - Provides information on the
Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), consumer
information, descriptions of DHHS agencies and links to
these agencies. The What's New section covers current
news items and the site has searching capabilities.
- Elsevier
Science Tables of Contents service
- Emerging
Infectious Diseases (EID) - Full text access to this
peer-reviewed journal published by the National Center
for Infectious Diseases, CDC. Access available from v. 1,
1995 to date.
- Entrez
- (National Center
for Biotechnology Information) - A database of
protein structure. The web version includes 3D structure
data, based on crystallographic and NMR structure
determinations.
- Environmental
Health Perspectives - A forum for research,
discussion, news and opinion in environmental health from
the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
- FASEB
Career Resources - (Federation of American Societies for
Experimental Biology) - Specializes in Biomedical Career
Advancement and employment opportunities and positions.
Includes the Careers On-line database.
- FASEB
Newsletter and Journal - Abstracts and tables of
contents for FASEB Journal (v. 8- July 1994- ), full text
for the newsletter (v. 27- 1994- ).
- Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) - Has up to date drug
information, food labeling laws and information on
medical devices. This site also has access to the code of
Federal Regulations which is searchable.
- Gastro
Extravaganza - A web page by Dr. Joel Greenson,
University of Michigan, which deals with
grastrointestinal and liver pathology. The home page was
created from his teaching experiences. Worth checking
out.
- GenBank
- Now contains 48,000 clusters of human genomic
sequences.
- The Genome Database
- Stores and curates genomic mapping data submitted by
researchers worldwide and provides this information
electronically to the scientific community.
- HSR (Health
Services Research) - Tables of contents and abstracts
(v. 30- 1995- ).
- IARC
Monographs - Abstracts available for titles in the
series.

- International Agency for
Research on Cancer - IARC's mission is to coordinate
and conduct research on the causes of human cancer, and
to develop scientific strategies for cancer control. The
agency is involved in both epidemiological and laboratory
research and dissemination of scientific information.

Imaging, University of Texas - Arlington - This
exhibit has been prepared to demonstrate our latest
advances related to acquisition, processing and
visualization of medical images generated using Magnetic
Resonance Imaging Techniques. Research focus is primarily
on engineering aspects of magnetic resonance imaging
including the design and development of imaging
instrumentation and improvement to image acquisition and
signal processing techniques.

available in the Biomedical Library History Division.
Only table of contents are available online, from Volume
1 to date. Guidelines are available for authors.
- Occupational Safety and
Health Administration - Covers agency publications
including fact sheets, Industrial Hygiene and Asbestos

Statistics, data and technical information are also
