UCLA Programs in Medical Classics

Dates, Speakers, and Topics

The UCLA Program in Medical Classics is a series of presentations designed to enhance the appreciation of the links among famous medical writings, clinical practice, basic research and humanistic scholarship. Held monthly October thru May, the Program brings together a convivial group of individuals of scholarly tastes, both from the community and from the UCLA faculty, students and staff to read, discuss and examine texts that embody advances in medicine and in the relationship of medicine to broader cultural settings. This academic year is our fourteenth season.

The following is a list of dates for the upcoming lecture series in Academic Year 1996-1997.

Programs for October 1996 through January 1997:

The above programs will take place at 6:00 pm in the UCLA Faculty Center, followed by a reception and an opportunity to examine some of the books dicussed that evening. There is no charge for the lectures. An optional dinner with the speakers, at $19.00 per person, will take place in the faculty center about 7:30 pm. A reservation is required for dinner.

An abridged form (ca. 10-20 pages) of an appropriate text will be distributed to those persons who request it in advance. To request these texts. or for more information, please send us an E-Mail with the words "Medical Classics Program" in the subject field, or call the History Division at (310) 825-4904.
