The Charles Donald O'Malley Prize In Medical History is awarded annually for the best unpublished essay on a medico-historical subject written by a student enrolled in the UCLA School of Medicine. The Prize serves to honor the memory of UCLA's distinguished medical historian (1907-1970), and to encourage an interest in the history of medicine among medical students. It is made possible through the financial support of the Ahmanson Foundation
The O'Malley Prize Committee is pleased to announce the results of the competition for 1996.
The O'Malley Medal and an Honorarium of $2000 to:
Marc Chodos, Class of 1999, for his essay: "Sir John Pringle: the Neglected Eighteenth-Century Environmentalist."
Honorable Mention and an Honorarium of $500 to:
Gregory S. Morales, Class of 1997, for his essay: "The Captain of All These Men of Death" [Tuberculosis at the Olive View Sanitarium].
