LexisNexis Academic databases provide the text of articles form general, business, legal, and medical periodicals. This guide focuses on finding general periodical articles. UCLA students, staff & faculty can also use it by dialing into Bruin OnLine (BOL) or by using the BOL Proxy Server (see http://www.bol.ucla.edu/services/ for details).

 
Wnat articles from a specific periodical?
1. Click on "Sources" (top)
2. Type the periodical name & click.
3. Scroll down. If you periodical is listed, click "About this Title" to read more. Click "Search this Title" & skip to (4) to look for articles in your periodical. If your periodical is nto listed, look elsewhere.
 

(1) Choose "Guided News Search." "News" includes general newspapers, magazines, journals & more. The "Guided News Search" will give you more control.



(2) Choose a "News Category"



(3) Select a "News Source"



(4) Type keywords & select where you want the database to search.



(5) Change the date option & click on "Search"



(6) Read the article by clicking on the underlined name of the periodical.



Want to change your search? Click "Edit Search" to return to the search screen.
Got zero results? SEARCH "Full Text," USE fewer words, CHOOSE a broader time period, OR SELECT a different type of source - e.g. try "Magazines & Journals," instead of "Major Papers."

 
Email To print, save, or e-mail the text of an article, display the text by clicking on the underlined name of the periodical. (Allows one article at a time only).

To Print or Save: Click on the "Print" button, then click on "Display Document." Finally, use the browser's print or save function.

To Email: Click on the "E-mail" button, type the complete e-mail address and click the "E-mail" button.

To print, save, or e-mail a list of citations, check the boxes next to the citations you want and follow the instructions above.
 
Wildcards

Use an asterisk * to substitute for letters in a word
wom*n = woman or women
Use an exclamation point ! at the end of a word
Child! = child or children or childhood, etc.
