Find books at UCLA Using ORION2

The ORION2 online system includes the "UCLA Libraries & Collections" catalog which lists books, periodical subscriptions and other materials in the 13 UCLA libraries.

The top of each screen indicates where you are in ORION2 (e.g., Quick Search) and provides important options. For example, click on "My Account" to see what you have checked out and to renew items.

1. To Search
Type search word(s), select one or more limits (optional) and click on a type of search: keywords, title, journal title, subject or author.


2. To Identify Location, Call Number & Availability

  • Click on Expanded Results


  • After clicking on Expanded Results, you should see library locations & call numbers, as below.

3. To Focus a Search Using Subjects

  • Click on UCLA Libraries (Full Record), then on a subject


    Didn't get enough after clicking on the last word of the subject? Try clicking on the next to the last subject word instead.

  • OR: Click on Modify Search to return to the original search screen; scroll down & select one or more limits.

4. To Request An Item From SRLF Or ORION Express
(SRLF is free. ORION Express is a fee service available to registered users only.)

  • Click on: (Detailed holdings, Recall, SRLF Request, ORION Express)


  • Click on Brief Results to return to your list.

5. To Print, Email, Or Download a Selected List of Search Results

  • Mark items by clicking in the box to the left of each.
  • Click on
    Try emailing a list to yourself. HINT: Click "View Selected Records" toward the top right.
  • OR, while viewing a full record, click on Send Full Record by Email at the top of the screen.
